Here at Evolution, we of course encourage everyone to explore the magical waters surrounding Malapascua. Many of our local staff have lived their entire lives on Malapascua without having the opportunity to venture into the big blue, so as soon as we have a little downtime our instructors love to get our staff involved in PADI’s Discover Scuba Diving program – a fantastic way to explore our shallow reefs and build confidence in the water.
Our most recent underwater explorers for the PADI Discover Scuba program were Marelyn, a kitchen ace in our restaurant The Craic House, and Jeck, one of the friendly faces greeting you in reception. Excitement levels were high, especially after the basic skills were completed and the girls got their first glimpse of everyone’s favourite star, Nemo! Upon surfacing, Jeck’s first words? “I want to be a divemaster!!”
Thea, our Assistant General Manager, also tried Discover Scuba Diving a few times and eventually went on to conquer the PADI Open Water course, soon to be followed by the PADI Advanced Open Water. It is great that Thea can now chat to our guests as a diver too!
It is also our philosophy that as Evolution develops, our hard working staff should also have the opportunity to develop their careers in diving. Albert, one of our ever-smiling boat crew, and Nico, the unsung hero of compressor ops and gas blending are both on their way to gaining divemaster certifications and joining our fantastic team of eagle-eyed dive guides.
Many of our guests have dived with veteran spotter Gino, who is poised to take a great leap in his diving career. This month he will complete his PADI Instructor Development Course and Instructor Exams, and join Evolution’s team of dedicated instructors. This has been a long time coming for Gino and we couldn’t be more proud of the work that he has put in to achieve his goal!
Congrats to all of our home-grown scuba lovers!
