Harlequin Shrimp are one of the great diving trophies and in 2014 we have been seeing them consistently around Malapascua Island, Gato Island and Chocolate Island. They often live in pairs and sport some of the most stunning liveries in the marine world.
The shrimp eat live Blue Sea Stars, slowly digesting the appendages and possibly absorbing toxic components from their meals. Their amazing colouration surely advertises their whereabouts to predators but like nudibranchs they use reverse psychology and let themselves be seen, knowing that predators see them as poisonous.
