Thresher sharks – that’s what a large portion of visitors to Malapascua are coming to see. As the only location worldwide where you can see thresher sharks on a daily basis, Malapascua is a haven for shark divers. The calm, majestic cleaning behavior of the sharks is amazing to watch, and means that the sightings we have are not just fleeting, but can often last for several minutes or longer.
Imagine being lucky enough to witness 2 thresher sharks cleaning, and 2 devil rays or mobula rays also sharing the same cleaning station. Well, that’s how lucky Van McCrea was recently whilst diving with Matt. As the only two divers in the area, Van and Matt enjoyed 15minutes of interaction with these amazing thresher sharks and rays.
Have a look a this quick video to see the sharks and rays cleaning at the same time, and see how close you can get to the sharks – when they choose to come close to you! Watch the choreographed flight of the devil rays and marvel in how little effort it takes them to maneuver in the underwater world.
If you want to see thresher shark and ray activity like this then there really is only one place to dive, and of course one diveshop to show you the best sights! Evolution on Malapascua Island.
