5 Top Tips to stay hydrated – from a Dive Professional

5 tips for divers to keep hydrated evolution dive resort malapascua
Sometimes when you are diving day in and day out it is easy to become dehydrated, especially when the weather is as beautifully tropical as it is here in Malapascua.

Diving occasionally does become slightly strenuous on our bodies in these warm conditions, due to things such as wearing wetsuits and putting on our dive equipment; on top of the fact that if you get any salt water in your mouth it will promote dehydration.

On surface level mild dehydration is not much of an issue, but can begin with mild cramps and progress further into slightly more serious conditions, so it is therefore very important to stay hydrated. (Especially for those who love that warm, clear blue water with which comes that longed for sunshine!)

5 top tips for divers to stay properly hydrated:

  1. Drink plenty of water and avoid unnecessary long periods of sun exposure (and keep an eye on toilet time to make sure it’s all ‘clear’).
  2. Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, especially those such as watermelon, cucumber and mango.
  3. Every so often drink a Gatorade or other beverages to replace those sugars that water can’t.
  4. Treat yourself to a fresh fruit smoothie or coconut milk once in a while.
  5. Even though you are on holiday and you should of course relax and have a good time, avoid 1 too many of these the night before…
