As many of our beleaguered blogophiles already know we collect books for local kids with the warm and generous help of anyone interested. We would like to take this opportunity to thank one and all for their contributions but we want to give a very special shout out to Peggy Joyce from Dublin who heard about the project and shipped 132 books all the way from Ireland to our tiny tropical speck in the ocean!
No sooner had The Annoying Elephant and many other great titles landed then they were in the hands of local kids who enjoyed the chance to read fun books without a teacher wagging their finger at them. So our big thanks for such a kind gesture. Our library is becoming just that now and we still want to actively get as many more books as we can.
In line with our current literary leanings we have created a peaceful Mindfulness zone here by the beach. It is a shaded area where people can read in the relative quiet or indeed study for an upcoming dive exam. Enjoy the company of our native Filipino statues as they contemplate the ebb and flow of island life by stretching out on a bean bag and finishing that beach novel or toilsome tome. You can also leave your unwanted books here for other readers to enjoy in the future and keep the good vibes flowing.
