This past September 19th marked 30th anniversary of Ocean Conservancy’s effort in mobilizing volunteers to pick up trash around the world.

At Evolution, we are proactive with marine conservation efforts throughout the year (hence our recent Green Fin award!), but of course wanted to participate in this monumental event that was led and organized by “People and the Sea” for the first time on Malapascua.

If you have visited Malapascua, you may have noticed that waste management system is almost nonexistent on this island, particularly in the villages.

People and the Sea recently landed on Malapascua to promote marine conservation by working with local villages and raising awareness.

The coastal cleanup day on September 19th was one of their first organized events, with local residents and resort staff working side by side to clean the Barrio, a bay that welcomes most tourists arriving on public ferries.

The event was a huge success! Despite the day being a Saturday, the children from local schools showed up with their families with bags, prepared to pick up trash along the shore. Six staff from Evolution also joined the effort, and were thrilled to see so many people participating on this day!
