Regular readers of our blog (hi Mum!) will hopefully have noticed that the safety of our guests is always first and foremost on our minds. When we live on a remote, tropical and very provincial paradise we have to accept certain facts. Visiting Malapascua means eschewing the trappings of modern living and embracing a bucolic way of life. The upside of this is an uncluttered, traffic free existence close to nature.
The flip side of this is you holiday far from amenities such as hospitals, doctors and all the things we often take for granted. In previous blogs we’ve discussed our evacuation procedures and ability to provide large volumes of pure O2 to stricken divers.
We certainly cannot claim to offer anything more then basic first aid but recently we offered training in just that to our staff. This is not just for your benefit but for the benefit of anyone they might chance to help. Staff members from waitresses to boat captains, cooks to compressor men worked with Master Instructor and EFR Trainer Dannie Holmstedt to go through the basics of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and basic first aid.
The first lesson of EFR training is that doing something is better then doing nothing. Hopefully some of our staff are now equipped to at least offer some form of sensible intervention in an emergency. Unlike the vast amount of training we normally offer, we hope this never gets used!
