Men’s Health in Malapascua – Movember Update

mens health malapascua

Over the last few years, Evolution has been promoting greater awareness of men’s health on Malapascua through our annual MOVEMBER. Each year we fund raise money through donations from Evolution and our customers, and in the last two years we provided free inoculations against pneumonia to male Malapascua residents over 55 years of age.

On a small island such as Malapascua (2.5km x 1km), medical services are nearly nonexistent. There are no hospitals or pharmacies. In order to receive proper medical care, a resident must cross the ocean to the mainland, to the nearest city of Daanbantayan 2 hours away. Such inconveniences force residents to seek care only when their illnesses become serious or severe. Currently, a project is underway to build a medical facility on Malapascua to facilitate access for approximately 6,000 residents of this island to a decent medical care. The construction of this clinic is expected to begin soon this year, but until then things remain difficult for Malapascua’s residents.

In the mean time, our hope is that inoculations will contribute to prevention efforts so that the elderly can retain their health.
Thanks to generous donations this year, we managed to provide our biggest budget yet and had over 60 local men sign up for inoculations.
Apparently, some men showed up at the local clinic thinking they were going to receive oral medications – and walked out when they saw needles!

Thanks to everyone for their donations and thanks to everyone who grew a great moustache in support!
